on the mirror: the silent parade by olivia martin-snowsill
until 31 october
Drawn from a 1917 photograph by Underwood & Underwood, Olivia Martin-Snowsill reimagines the Silent Protest Parade, a landmark NAACP demonstration where thousands of African Americans marched wordlessly against racial violence.
Part of an ongoing series, the work pulls from archival material to spotlight moments of quiet resistance. Chalk, charcoal, and acrylic replace the camera lens, layering texture over history, capturing not literal detail but the atmosphere represented in dignity, defiance, solidarity.
Commissioned by Prophet Magazine for One Hundred Shoreditch, the piece speaks to Prophet’s mission: a platform rooted in culture and community, elevating and amplifying Black creatives.
